Assistant Community Risk Reduction Specialist
Brighton Fire District
Rochester, New York, United States
Alannah joined the fire service in 2017 when she was 18 years old. She started out with Amherst (MA) Fire Department's Student Force (Engine Co. 3) while attending UMass Amherst. Although she never expected to become a firefighter, she was attracted to the pride and dedication of the fire service, as well as the close bonds of the engine company.
Alannah is grateful for the ways the fire service has shaped her into the person she is today and she is passionate about making sure no one misses out on the amazing experience of becoming a firefighter. While in college, Alannah grew both her firefighting experience and diversity, equity, and inclusion knowledge. She has focused many recruitment and retention efforts on supporting and welcoming people who have been historically underrepresented in the fire service.
After graduating from UMass in 2021, Alannah returned home to Rochester, NY and knew she would continue her involvement with the voluneer fire service. She joined Brighton (NY) Fire Department in June of 2022 after seeing their billboard specifically calling for women to become volunteer firefighters. Since joining, she has served on Brighton's Recruitment and Retention Committee and Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee, and has filled the role of Squad Leader. In September of 2024, she stepped into a new role as BFD's new Assistant Community Risk Reduction Specialist. Although she is young and relatively new to Brighton Fire, Alannah is grateful to have had her ideas uplifted and voice heard. With thoughtfulness and hard work, Alannah sees a bright future for the fire service and is excited to get to contribute to a healthy, welcoming, and sustainable combination department.
