In this presentation, representatives from Brighton Fire Department’s Recruitment and Retention Committee will share strategies that have found them success in growing a volunteer department that meets the needs of its membership and better represents its community. These strategies emphasize intentional, long-term efforts to grow relationships between community members and the department. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss their department’s unique recruitment and retention challenges, as well as brainstorm potential solutions.
The speakers, although diverse in age, gender, and backgrounds, share an important belief: when we all “play the long game” in recruitment and retention, the fire service as a whole will be healthier, more sustainable, and better suited to support our communities.
