Steve Hirsch is the Chairman of the National Volunteer Fire Council. His father started the fire district at Simpson, Kansas in 1963 and Steve was born the year before that. Consequently he was immersed in the fire service from a very early stage. He currently serves as Presidentof the Kansas State Firefighters Association and has been Secretary, First Vice President, President and Treasurer of that organization for a total of 23 years of service to the Firefighters of Kansas. Hirsch’s home department where he serves as Training Chief, is Sheridan County Fire Department, an all volunteer located in Northwest Kansas. In addition to his fire duties, he is elected County Attorney in Decatur County, Kansas having been elected and re elected to that position for 35 years. His wife Anita is always by his side, encouraging the volunteer spirit along with their two children and five grand children. Hirsch says. “God has blessed me as a volunteer firefighter, as a husband, a father and a grandfather”. There is no better thing than to volunteer to help out your neighbor when they need it the most.
