Eddie Buchanan began his fire service career in 1982 and retired as an Assistant Chief with Hanover (VA) Fire-EMS after 40 years of service. He is a past president of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors and winner of the 2015 George D. Post Instructor of the Year Award, where he was credited with creating the SLICE-RS concept in the Principles of Modern Fire Attack Program. He serves on the executive editorial advisory board for Fire Engineering and FDIC and served on the NFPA Technical Services Committee for Fire Services Training, along with NFPA 1700 and NFPA 1022. He is co-author of the Training Officer's Handbook and author of the Volunteer Training Officer's Handbook. He now serves as the business development manager for Deccan International.
