A volunteer fire department is a dynamic complex operation. We all know that from a response perspective, and we prepare appropriately. But how well do we do when it comes to the operation of the business side of our departments? What do we do to develop our future leaders for our business, not just for operations?
We will present on an example of how a group of volunteers, taking from a regional leadership program with a career focus, developed a program for volunteers that is already seeing benefits in our system in less then a year. We will provide not only the story of how it was developed and implemented, but what we learned through the process, the challenges we faced, and the curve ball in the second offered that taught us a lot. All while giving ideas how to take a program like this and scale it to your department allowing you to up your game in advancing leadership training in your department no matter the size.
