Leadership in the fire service requires a multidimensional set of skills, including operations, finance, politics, and personnel management, among other activities. For a Chief or leadership team responsible for providing direction and growth to an organization, one of the last issues a Chief or team wants to manage is litigation within the department. Most litigation against a department is from within, mainly discrimination, retaliation, and harassment. This class will provide the foundational aspects of legal fire prevention for new or existing leadership and discuss these and other adverse legal issues affecting a fire department.
